“Prevention is always better than a cure” a timeless saying that is absolutely true. At Sarkis Dental Clinic our aim is to prevent dental decay and gum disease by carrying out periodic check-ups, x-rays and teeth cleaning. We also provide our patients with detailed oral hygiene instructions on how to keep their teeth and gums healthy at home.
One way of minimising the chances of teeth decay is to apply Fissure Sealant on the newly erupted permanent molars and premolars in children. Fissure sealants are protective coatings that are applied to cover the deep grooves (fissures) in children’s teeth and prevent dental decay by minimising the ability of food particles to stick to such grooves. These fissures are most commonly located at the chewing surfaces on back teeth (molars and premolars). The procedure is painless and usually up to four molars can be sealed in one visit.
Fluoride application to children’s teeth is also an effective dental procedure to minimise the possibility of dental decay. But since the introduction of water fluoridation and the use of fluoride toothpastes, the need for the direct application of fluoride on children’s teeth has been restricted to children with moderate to high risk of dental decay. So, at Sarkis Dental Clinic we only apply fluoride to children’s teeth after careful assessment of their risk of dental decay.
